I received my CPR card in the mail. I applied on the 8th of October and received it today. I still need my NemID — more about the NemID and a cashless society whose government knows exactly where you are at all times — later — after they grant me one. This means I have to go back to the Kommune to apply for it unless I open a bank account, which I need to do in order to get mobile pay. It may be true that because I’ve only been in Denmark for a month I need to get my NemID before I can open a bank account. It can be confusing. I do know that because I have only been here for a month or so, I must bring someone who can vouch that I am who I say I am even though I have my CPR card and a passport.
I also have a Pennsylvania Drivers License with my photo on it. I can turn that in for a Danish Drivers License without taking the test. All I need is a doctor’s exam confirming that I have am physically unimpaired and capable of driving and a NemID. You can’t go to the doctor until you receive your CPR card. It’s all a bit convulted and requires multiple visits to the Kommune. No goverment anywhere makes it easy.
That said, the first use of my CPR card will be to get my swimming pool pass that works in all of Copenhagen’s community pools. At just $65 for a year, it’s one of Copenhagen’s greatest bargains for seniors. The regular price is a deal too. Where in the world can you swim in well-maintained pools for $135 a year?
I’d go today but you need cash or a Dankort (bank debit card) to purchase the pass. I have neither. Cash, not likely. Dankort, måske snart?
So it goes here.
