It’s hard to say what time it is when your moving six hours forward without leaving the ground. Our flight is turbulence free until we pass over the tip of Scotland and the Orkney Islands. A bit of a bump before we cross the Danish west coast and land an hour ahead of schedule in Copenhagen.
I gather my bag and pass through customs in record time. I text my lovely wife. Where ‘s my greeting party? She responds at our new apartment having breakfast. My plane has arrived an hour earlier than expected, which is rare. She heads to the Metro and I grab a coffee and a seat at the Starbucks to wait for her. After she arrives, we take a short cab ride to the apartment.
I enter for the first time – seeing a place on facetime — thanks C & J for doing that — isn’t the same as being there. We have no furniture other than the sleep couch which is still in boxes and two chairs. After two weeks of camping out in Philadelphia, my back is starting to ache. Yet, here we are camping out again and will be until our stuff arrives.
A. has been sleeping on the back of the couch – not very comfortable – waiting for us to decide on which side of the couch the extension will work best for the room. I’m tired so I catch a bit of sleep – uncomfortable though it may be — before we assemble the couch.
Tomorrow we’re on a train to Malmö for Nordisk Panorama, the film festival she’ll be running. It’s good timing because we’ll be in a hotel for a week. Hotels have furniture and beds. You don’t know how important furniture is until you have none.
